Atkinson win rain shortened Mt Lawn CRA event
Atkinson, who was fourth fastest qualifier, started eighth in the field of sixteen and got the lead of the race on lap nineteen on a nifty move in the short turn when he got around two cars. Rain began to fall on lap 21 and the race was yellow flagged. After a few laps under yellow the track dried enough to allow racing to continue and the green returned. On lap 23 rain again force the races to be halted but after a 10 minute delay the race was able to be resumed. On lap 26 the skies opened up again and lighting danced across the sky causing officials to call the race official. The balance of the racing program was also cancelled with double features planned for next week in the Thompson Builders Thunder Car and MC Auto Repair Hornet divisions.

Next week UMRA midgets will return to Mt Lawn for the second of four appearances joining Mt Lawn Late Models, Thompson Builders Thunder Cars, MC Auto Repair Hornets and Street Drags. Rain checks from July 17 races will not be honored for any future events at Mt Lawn as the racing program was over half complete.
