Marcum brothers continue hot streak at Mt Lawn

 

The Marcum brothers kept up their winning ways at Mt Lawn Saturday night by winning the Late Model and Thompson Builders Thunder Car feature events

In Late Model action David McConnell of Shirley making his second start of 2010 took the lead at the drop of the green flag and led the first 5 laps.  On lap 6 William Mefford, of Knightstown, got around McConnell exiting the short turn and led the next 7 laps.  Brandon Mefford, also of Knightstown, got around father William for the lead on lap 13 by diving just a little harder into the short turn.  On lap 17 Jeff Marcum, of Morristown, got around William Mefford for second and started to close in on the younger Mefford.  Marcum overtook Mefford on lap 20 and led the rest of the way.  Scott Knepley, of Greensboro, passed Brandon on lap 27 as the two entered the short turn.  Knepley finished second followed by Brandon Mefford, Eric Evans of Greenfield, William Mefford, McConnell, Ralph Lane of Greensburg, Joe Woodring of Muncie, Brock Anderson of Albany and Bill Pierce of New Castle.  Evans set fast time at 16.584; Knepley won the Razzles Dash for Cash while William Mefford and Woodring won the heats.

Neil Marcum, of Morristown, made it 14 feature wins out of 15 tries for 2010 in the Thompson Builders Thunder Car division.  Jesse Bilbrey, of Markleville, led the first lap of the 30 lap feature.  Jason Thompson of Shirley who was making a rare appearance at Mt Lawn took the lead on lap 2 and led he next 7 laps.  Marcum passed Thompson on lap 9 and led the rest of the way.  Jameson Owens of Greenfield also passed Thompson on lap 9 for second place.  Owens and Thompson would battle for second over the final 21 laps with Thompson retaking second on lap 25 but Owens got back around Thompson on  the final lap to finish in the number two spot.  Thompson was third followed by Adam Bolyard of Rushville, Colby Lane of Knightstown, Bilbrey, Chase Lane of Knightstown, Adam Bolyard, Andrew Walker of Sulphur Springs and Paul Starks of Fortville.  Jason Walker of Sulphur and Jim Walker of Cambridge City dropped out early with mechanical failure.  Marcum set fast time at 17.785 and won the Thompson Builders Dash for Cash with Thompson and Bilbrey taking the heats.

Eric Evans took the lead in the MC Auto Repair Hornet feature from Doug Sorrell, of Mooreland, on lap 6 and led the rest of the way.  Keith Morris, of New Castle, finished second followed by series point leader Brian Lewis of Indianapolis, Joyce Dyer of Greenfield, Doug Sorrell, Josh Neal of New Castle, Jeff Sorrell of New Castle, Emily Henderson of New Castle, Graham Luhn of New Castle, and Zach Lacy of New Castle.  Joseph Jennings of Richmond, Brian Slavey of New Castle, Josh Owens of New Castle, Freddie Marlow of New Castle and John Massengale of New Castle finished 11-15.  Joyce Dyer who accepted the “Tail Gunner Challenge” for the feature set fast time at 19.660; Eric Evans made it a clean sweep by taking the MC Auto Repair Dash for Cash and his heat race with Josh Neal winning the second heat.

Scott Lewis of Indianapolis beat Scott Reece and Josh Marlow of New Castle in the Hornet Rookie race and Donnell Boykin of New Castle won the Lady Hornet event.  Scott Razor of New Castle won the street drags.
