Marcum narrows Late Model point lead

 

Jeff Marcum of Morristown won the Mt Lawn Late Model feature Saturday night at the Mt Lawn Speedway thereby closing the gap in the season point race to just 10 points over Eric Evans of Greenfield with the final race coming up Sept 25th..

Ralph Lane of Greensburg led the first three laps of the feature giving way to Evans on lap 4.  Marcum got around Evans and Lane on lap 5 and led the 5 laps.  On the lap 10 double file restart Scott Knepley of Greensboro got the jump on Marcum to take the lead.  Knepley led the next 5 laps until the yellow came out again on lap 16.  On the lap 16 restart Marcum got the jump on Knepley and led the rest of the way for his ninth win in 2010.  Knepley finished second followed by Evans, Lane, Neil Marcum of Morristown, Brock Anderson of Albany, Bill Pierce of New Castle, Kent Carson of Richmond, Bill Clark of Rushville and Joe Woodring of Muncie to round out the top ten.

Evans set fast time in qualifications at 16.497 and Jeff Marcum won the Razzles Dash for Cash.

Jameson Owens of Greenfield led the final twenty laps of the Thompson Builders Thunder Car feature and took the checkered flag for what appeared to be the first feature win of his career at Mt Lawn.  Owens car however was disqualified in post race technical inspection and that appeared to give the win to the second car that crossed the finish line driven by Johnny Magee of Carthage.  Magee’s car also failed post race inspection giving the win to Jason Walker of Sulphur Springs whose car did pass tech.  Nick Warner of Anderson was awarded second followed by David Clark of Muncie, Chris Bolyard of Rushville, Jesse Bilbrey of Markleville, David McConnell of Shirley, Kyle Evans of Shirley, Chris Hanna of Carthage, Jim Walker of Cambridge City and Andrew Walker of Sulphur Springs.  Owens had fast time in qualifications at 17.956 with Warner winning the Thompson Builders Dash for Cash.

In MC Auto Repair Hornet action Eric Evan won the “Tail Gunner Challenge” by winning the 20 lap main event.  Graham Luhn of New Castle led the first lap with John Massengale of New Castle taking over on lap 2.  Massengale led the next 7 laps until Josh Owens of New Castle took over on lap 9.  Evans took the lead from Owens on lap 11 and led the rest of the way.  Joyce Dyer of Greenfield finished second followed by Brian Lewis of Indianapolis, Owens, Zach Lacey of New Castle, Jerry Small of Arcadia, Keith Morris of New Castle, Luhn and Brian Slavey of New Castle.  19.521 was fast time in time trials set by MC Auto Repair Dash for Cash winner Eric Evans.

Donnell Boykin of New Castle won the Lady Hornet event and UMRA midget driver Brandon Gray of Greenfield making his first start in a stock car won the Rookie Hornet feature.

Scott Razor of New Castle beat Alex Bailey of New Castle in the Street Drags.

In Mt Lawn Big Wheel action winners were Kennadi Knepley of Greensboro, Jacob Godsey of Yorktown, Jaylin Slavey of New Castle, Katie Henderson of New Castle, Dylan Ward of New Castle and Coatie Adkins of New Castle.

Next week will be the final race for the 2010 season with 50 lap features for the Mt Lawn Late Models, Thompson Builder Thunder Cars, MC Auto Repair Hornets and the UMRA Midgets.  Indy FasKarts and Mt Lawn Big Wheels will also be on the racing program.
