Mt Lawn attempts Raintree again this weekend


After two unsuccessful attempts to run the Raintree 100 Mt Lawn is prepared to try again this Saturday July 14th  to get the 42 version of the famous classic in the books.  Normally rain is the culprit for postponing a race but this year it has been because of the extreme heat.  Saturday temps in the100 forced track officials to postpone the race for a second time in as many weeks.

“Long range forecasts look favorable for getting the race in this week,” said Rick Sweigart owner of Mt Lawn., “Unless there are some unforeseen circumstances there should be 16 Late Models take the green flag in the Raintree which is scheduled to drop at 8:45 after preliminary dashes and heats in the Thunder Car, Hornet and Rookie Hornet divisions.”

Jason Thompson of Shirley has the honor of holding the fastest time of the year in time trials at 17.018 and seven other drivers are within .326 seconds of matching his time. Those drivers include Wes Russell Jr. of Muncie, Eric Evans of Greenfield, L J Lines of Lewisville, Neil and Jeff Marcum of Morristown, Brandon Mefford of Spiceland and Scott Knepley of Greensboro.  Ninth quick time of the year belongs to Kevin Claborn of Cambridge City at 17.548.  Other drivers expected in the starting field are Bill Pierce Jr. of  New Castle who is currently running second in the season point chase, Kent Carson of Richmond who is third in points, David McConnell of Shirley, Randy Anderson of Knightstown, Wes Duvall of New Castle, David Clark of Muncie and Tracy Burroughs of Anderson.

Ticket prices are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, kids 6-10 $5 with 5 and under free.
