Trent Gossar wins 50 lap Pro Compact Feature

Eighteen Pro Compacts started the 50 lap feature event at Mt Lawn on Saturday night.  There were a total of five lead changes during the event.  Derek Morris of New Castle took the lead of race on lap one from his outside pole starting position.  Trent Gossar of Markleville got around Morris on lap 8 and would lead the next 10 laps until he and Kevin Claborn of Cambridge City got together on the front stretch taking the green flag after a yellow flag restart.  That contact caused another yellow and sent Gossar to the pits with a flat tire giving the lead to Claborn.  Gossar’s crew was able to make repairs to his car and sent him back onto the track before the race restarted in 13th spot.  Claborn would lead the next eleven laps until the engine in his mount let go sending him to the pits for the night.  With Claborn out Dylan Hoppes of Markleville took the lead and led for the next ten laps until Gossar, who had worked his way back to the front passed Hoppes on lap on lap 39. Gossar would lead the rest of the way followed by Adam Lee of Westwood, Shaylon Calciano of Kennard, Travis Lee of Kennard, Cody Riley of Middletown, Josh Hague of Anderson, Thomas Winger of Cadiz, Brett Smith of Richmond, Hoppes, Brad Miller of New Castle, Morris, Claborn, Chris Gray of Greenfield, Jeremy Hargis of New Castle, Will Jennings of Richmond, TJ Fannin of New Castle, Nathan Guinn of New Castle and JD Blankenship Jr of New Castle.

The Evans boys from Shirley topped the Modified feature with Drew beating Andrew by just over 2 seconds to take the win.  Frankie Oakes of Cambridge City led to the half way point when Drew passed him on lap 16 and led the rest of the way.  Following Andrew was Oakes, Brent Sutton of Modoc, Don Skaggs of Modoc, David McConnell of Shirley, Phil Jenkins of Greenfield, Brent Butler of Sandusky OH, Randy Anderson of Knightstown and Billy Hayes of Charlottesville.  Skaggs and Anderson won the heats with fast time going to Butler at 16.879.

The Crown Vic feature went to Chase Sutton of Shirley. David Logsdon of New Castle led the first six laps until Korbin Magee of Carthage took over and held the top spot for 4 laps when Sutton took over on lap 11 and led the rest of the way.  Sutton beat Chuck Cook of Wilkinson by .665 seconds and Collin Sutton of Shirley by .908 seconds.  Brandon Kindler of New Castle was fourth followed by Magee, Adam Lee of Westwood, Logsdon, Greg Clark of New Castle, Michelle Barrett of Anderson and Jonas Gordon of Greenfield.  Barrett and Logsdon won the heat with fast time set by Lee at 19.288.

Darrell Thompson Jr of New Castle picked up the feature win in the Stock Compact division.  Chris Morris of New Castle led the first 3 laps, Brachelle Wisner of Anderson led laps 3–7, Chris Gray led lap 8, Wisner led 9-12 and Thompson 13-20.  Wisner finished second followed by Dakota Clark of New Castle, Robert Bryan of Greenfield, Jarrett Smith of Anderson, Brock Smith, Jacob Corn of New Castle, Levi Moreland, Morris and Gaige Hullet,  Smith and Clark won the heats.

Racing returns to Mt Lawn next Saturday Sept 14th with Modifieds, Crown Vics, Pro Compacts and Stock Compacts.
