Kyle Evans wins marathon Vic race at Mt Lawn

The green flag dropped on 38 Crown Vic stock cars Saturday night and 1 hour and 15 minutes and 51 laps of green flag racing later Kyle Evans of Knightstown came home victorious. There were a total of 9 yellow flags and 1 red flag during the event.

Travis Dobbs led lap 1 from his outside front row starting position.  On lap 2 Tyler Dobbs took the lead and led the next 6 laps.  Brendan Holford moved into the lead on lap 7 only to give up the top spot to Tom Gossar of Markleville.  Gossar was feeling heat from Evans who started 30th in the field and moved into 2nd on lap 17.  Evans eventually got around Gossar on lap 21 to take the lead, a lead he would not give up.  Nick Warner of Anderson started 32rd followed Evans to the front and moved into second position on lap 42.  Warner and Drew Evans of Shirley kept the pressure on Evans the rest of the race but could not make a pass for the lead and finished second and third.  Randy Hoppes of Markleville got around Gossar on the last lap for 4th.  Gossar was followed by TJ Callaway, Brandon Kindler, Kamden Creek, Ricky Craig and Michelle Barrett to round out the top ten.

In Modified action Drew Evans of Shirley lead led the first 8 laps relinquishing the lead to Brandon Mefford of Knightstown.  Mefford’s lead was shorted lived as Evans moved back in front on lap 10 and led the rest of the way.  Brent Butler of Sandusky Oh got around Mefford on lap 28 to finish second.  Brent Sutton of Modoc got around Mefford on the next to last lap to take third.  Mefford finished 4th followed by Frankie Oakes of Cambridge City, Don Skaggs of Sarasota Fla, Austin Evans of Shirley, Randy Anderson of Knightstown, Billy Hayes of Charlottesville and Justin Kemp. Kemp and Sutton won the heats.  Oakes was able to repair heavy damage to his car received in his heat with borrowed parts and a lot of work to make the feature.

Robert Bryan of Greenfield won for the 4th time this year in the Stock Compact feature.  Brett Smith of Richmond led the first 3 laps giving way to Adam Lee of Westwood.  Lee gave up the lead to Bryan on lap 6.  Jarrett Smith moved into second on lap 8 but could not catch Bryan and finished runner-up.  Third went to Dylan Hoppes of Markleville followed by Jacob Corn of New Castle, Trey Thompson, Gaige Hullet, Chris Morris, Brandon Hoppes, Justin Mefford and Sean Booker.  Bryan won the heat.

Pro Compact’s had 11 cars start the feature with Nathan Gwinn leading the first 4 laps.  Trent Gossar of Markleville moved into first on lap 5 to take the win.  Cody Riley of Middletown took over 2nd on lap 8 and put heavy pressure on Gossar the rest of the way to finish second.

Point leader Shaylon Calciano of Kennard finished third followed by Gwinn, Jeremy Hargis, Travis Lee, Adam Lee, Brett Smith, Chris Morris and TJ Fannin.  Calciano won the heat.

The final two races of the 2024 season will be on Sunday afternoon October 20 and 27th.  On the 20th Modified, Crown Vics, Stock Compacts and Pro Compacts. The 27th will feature the second annual Crown Vic Challenge, sponsored by US Auto Group, with the Crown Vics going for 100 laps and a top prize of $2000 along with a Grocery Getter Enduro.  More details will be posted when they become available.
