Final race of ’24 at Mt Lawn this weekend
The final race of the 2024 racing season is scheduled for next Sunday October 27 at the Mt Lawn Speedway. The racing program will feature a 100 lap event for the Crown Vic class. 25 Crown Vics were on hand last Sunday for a 20 lap tune up for this weekend. Several more cars are expected for the 100 lap Challenge event. Joining the Crown Vics will be 30 minute Enduro for strictly stock cars called Grocery Getters. The Grocery Getter name comes from cars that only have the glass removed from an automobile and then go racing. In Crown Vic action this week Chase Sutton of Middletown got the feature win by leading the final 5 laps of the 20 lap event. Sutton started 12th and steadily moved to the front taking the lead from Billy Hayes of Charlottesville who had led the previous 8 laps. Chuck Cook of Wilkinson got around Hayes on lap 16 to finish second. Hayes was third followed by TJ Callaway of Greenfield. Callaway is the grandson of Mt Lawn legend LJ Lines. Caleb Burge of New Castle was fifth followed by Adam Lee of Westwood, Korbin Magee of Carthage, Brandon Kindler of New Castle, Harold Bruce and Greg Clark. Randy Hoppes of Markleville and David Logsdon of New Castle won the heats. Hoppes had a good run going in the feature but a flat tire caused him to pit and restart at the end of the field on lap 6.
Josh Ebbert of Anderson won the Stock Compact feature leading the final 22 laps. Ebbert was followed by Adam Lee, Robert Bryan of Greenfield, Jarrett Smith of Shirley, Chris Gray of Greenfield, Dakota Clark of New Castle, Jeffery Alexander of Shirley, Scott Stewart of Cambridge City, Levi Moreland of New Castle and Nathan Gwinn of New Castle, Gwinn and Dustin Hulett of New Castle won the heats.
In Modified action Ryan Amonett picked up the feature pending tire sample results. Amonett was making only his second start of the year at Mt Lawn the other being when he won the Raintree 100 for the third year in a row. Drew Evans of Shirley was second followed by Brent Butler of Sandusky Oh, Brent Sutton of Modoc, Frankie Oakes of Cambridge City, Joe Beaver of Noblesville, Billy Hayes, Randy Anderson of Knightstown, Joe Jennings of Richmond and Don Skaggs of Modoc. Amonett and Corey Puckett from Shadybowl Speedway in DeGraff Ohio won the heats
Travis Lee of Kennard won the Pro Compact feature after leading the final 10 lap the event. Alex Abbott of Knightstown was second followed by Adam Lee, Brett Smith of Richmond, Josh Ebbert, Jeremy Hargis of New Castle, Brooklyn Winger of Cadiz, Zach Morris of New Castle, Cody Riley of Middletown and Megan Lee of Westwood. Riley led 7 and 8 only to develop engine problems forcing him to slow considerable entering the short turn. Morris collected to slow moving Riley causing him to leave the race with a busted radiator. The heats went to Morris and Abbott.
The next and final event of the season is scheduled for Sunday afternoon Oct 27th with the 100 lap Crown Vic Challenge and the Grocery Getters Enduro. The Pit gate opens at 10 AM with practice and the grandstand gates opening at 12 noon. Qualifications follow practice and racing begins at 3:00. Ticket prices are $15 with 8 and under free.
