Labor Day weekend results from Mt Lawn

 

 

 The 2020 season at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle came to an end on Saturday and Sunday evenings with the Labor Day Weekend Extravaganza consisting of the Champion Racing Association/Vore's Welding and Steel Late Model Sportsman, the Champion Racing Association/Van Hoy Oil Street Stocks, the Claborn Motors LLC Modifieds, the Pro Compacts, the Owens Electric Factory Stock Compacts, the Thunder Roadsters, the Tony Stewart Drywall Crown Vics, and the Cage Karts.

Saturday night's activities consisted of hot action and hot tempers, as numerous incidents throughout would be broken up between both drivers and crew members alike. Activities on the track would see experience pay off, as Jason Atkinson of Mooreland, Mark Jennings of Richmond, Ryan Amonett of New Castle, and Jeff Lane of Knightstown would be victorious in the dash races for the Sportsman, Street Stock, Pro Compact and Modified classes. In the first of three evening features, Kaylee Atkinson of Mooreland would take the white flag in the Crown Vics feature in third place. By the checkered flag, she had emerged the victor as extracurricular activities between 1st place Austin Williams of Louisville, Kentucky and 2nd place Jeffrey Cramner would see Williams crash into the turn 2 wall, Cramner disqualified for rough driving, and Atkinson in victory lane. Williams and Shelbie Crabtree of Muncie were the heat race victors. Chuck Cook of Kennard's dominance of the Factory Stock Front Wheel Drive division would continue with his victory in the Saturday feature. Robert Bryon of Indianapolis, Jacob Johnson of Kennard, Keith Morris of New Castle, and Jonathan Claywell of New Castle would follow Cook to the finish line. Brad Miller of New Castle, David Powell of Anderson, and Cody Griffith of Greenfield won the heat races.

Sunday would be an all-feature afternoon for all divisions beginning with the Pro Compacts in the Abbott Tree Services 25 and early on looked to be going Mark Jennings way. Jennings made a bold move at the start, going three wide between TJ Fannin of New Castle and Alex Abbott of Knightstown, taking the lead from Chris Jennings of Richmond before the end of lap one. Meanwhile, Rodney Sutton of New Castle would make the charge from his 10th starting position and take the lead before halfway pulling away for the victory. In the Vore's Welding & Steel CRA Sportsman Series, Austin Coe of Ft. Wayne would take the lead of lap 28 appropriately to secure his second straight CRA victory at Mt. Lawn after winning the Raintree 100 last month. Tanner Jack of Auburn, Indiana finished second with Billy Hutson of Ft. Wayne, Cassten Everidge of Hudson, Indiana, and Jason Atkinson of Mooreland rounding out the top five. Hutson was also fast qualifier with a time of 16.729 seconds around the 3/10th mile oval, an overall speed of 64.559 mph. In Claborn Motors Modified action, Harold Scott of New Castle would pick up his second feature victory of 2020 in the 30 lap feature. Scott, who started fourth, would take the lead following Jeremy Jackson's spin in turn 4 on lap 5. From then on, Scott would hold off a hard charging Jeff Lane for the victory. Lane finished second with Scott Coe of Ft. Wayne, his son Austin Coe of Ft. Wayne, and Don Skaggs of Modoc rounding out the top five

The Tony Stewart Drywall Crown Vics feature would prove to be less chaotic then the night before, as Paul Hartlage of Louisville, Kentucky would record his 2nd feature win at Mt. Lawn in 2020. AJ Stewart of Lewisville would finish second with Daniel Durrett of Brooks, Kentucky rounding out the podium. Jason Powers of Loveland, Ohio would emerge the victor in the Thunder Roadsters feature with Phil Jenkins of Greenfield, Clayton Gaines of Alexandria, Doug Dugger of Greenfield, and Chad Cory of Morristown rounding out top five. Chuck Cook of Kennard would record his second Owens Electric Stock Compact feature victory in as many nights by winning the 25-lap feature event. Jacob Johnson of Kennard finished second with Cody Griffith of Greenfield, Robert Bryon of Indianapolis, and David Powell of Anderson rounding out the top five. In the final event of the event, Ryan Amonett would win the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks feature, taking the lead with from Jason Atkinson with 25 laps to go in the 75 lap feature. Atkinson finished second with Josh Poore of Anderson, Colby Lane of Knightstown, and Andrew Tepee of Indianapolis rounding out the top five.
